I particularly disliked the French-accented Fins. The limited number of phrases that each commando utters can become repetitive and annoying.
The rumble of tanks, the slice of a knife, the bang of a gun and the spring of the sapper's bear trap all meld to form a decent soundscape. Still, the good looks so good that it is hard to fault it for some tiny details. This can make it difficult to spot your men, especially in areas with heavy foliage. The game's overhead view and your team's ability to scan the landscape for Nazis force the characters presented in Commandos to be very small. The decay and destruction of World War II also leave their marks on the terrain. Trees, snow, rocks, flowing water and other organic scenery comprise most of the background. Each level contains many intricate details. By the time you finally stop, it is time to get out of bed. It is the kind of game that tricks you into playing it until the wee hours of the morning.
Solving a mission can be a frustrating process of trial and error but victory is tremendously rewarding.Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines is an addictive, well-produced game. Killing guards is tempting but almost never the best choice if you're discovered your mission will be blown. You'll need to master the unique abilities of each member of your six-soldier team in order to achieve your objectives. Unlike many squad strategy games however it runs in real time requiring you to think and execute your plans quickly. The game's isometric view shows the whole map at once letting you plan out your strategy in advance.Taking up the challengeĬommandos: Behind Enemy Lines is a tense challenging game that requires forethought and strategy. Each member of your commando squad has different skills which you will have to use to avoid guards destroy enemy weapons nests assassinate targets rescue allies and more. The only downside is that each mission has basically one correct solution once you've done it there's little replay value.īy ghzanfar abbas reviewed on April 4, 2019Ĭommandos: Behind Enemy Lines is a tactical game set in World War II in which you take control of a team of commandos to carry out a variety of missio ns.
